The Homeschool Mother's Journal - April 18

The Homeschool Mother's Journal
I'm jumping on The Homeschool Mother's Journal meme hosted by Sue of the Homeschool Chick.

In my life this week…

Things have gone a bit haywire.  While it is a blessing that tomorrow is our last 'official' day of school for the 2010-2011 school year, I am battling disappointment over what appears to be a sprained ankle.  You see, I was going to start getting up extra early to go to the gym again next week.  I've been on 'serious exercise hiatus' for far too long.  It appears this may last a bit longer.

In our homeschool this week…

Working on finishing up Pre-Algebra and starting Iowa testing for all kiddos.  School was preempted by my 2nd born's birthday!!!  (Didn't you know there's no school on your birthday?)

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

Again, this week we took two field trips.  The first was to Young Chef's Academy to try their hands at messing up someone else's kitchen.....I mean gourmet cooking.  They had a blast!  Unfortunately, this location is closing, so, we may continue on elsewhere.

The second was to Leu Gardens where we had a wonderful tour of the grounds taking in all the foliage and smells!

My favorite thing this week was…

A toss up between my 2nd born's birthday and watching my kinestetic daughter  gather a myriad of botanical specimens (with the approval of our tour guide) at Leu Garden's to take home and examine at length.

What’s working/not working for us…

My injured foot....we just got back to having regular outings (and enjoying them!) and may have to slow back down to a crawl I said, I'm dealing with disappointment but I'm getting through it.

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have…

Wondering which elementary Apologia science to use.  While the olders are doing Physical Science co-op, we will have the younger siblings working as well.

A photo, video, link, or quote to share…

Happy 10th birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy 10th birthday

  1. Is this the Young Chef's in Winter PArk? Caleb's been going there for the past 2 years and loves it! He'll be sooo dissapointed! We haven't heard anything.

  2. Happy Birthday to your 10 year old!! :) Well, we decided on Apologia's Human Anatomy & Physiology for next year (both my boys will do with the notebooks), plus--My oldest will be doing Physcial Science with Apologia also. Take care and thanks for sharing.

PLEASE let your foot heel...being around military...some of these guys can get pretty stubborn about not letting fractures heal, and are worse off than if they did! :) Take care and hope it heals fast. I can't imagine that--especially with hubby gone. :(

  3. Yay for the young chefs! My older daughter has expressed an interest in learning to cook, so I've been helping her prepare a recipe every day. It's SO much work, but I'm really looking forward to the days when she'll be able to cook whole meals at a time for us!
