The Everyday Matters Bible for Women is a big help in this area.
"Today's Christian woman is so busy handling the challenges of day-to-day life that it's easy to think of spending time with the Bible as yet another "should". Just the thought of it can be exhausting. But we know you want to spend time in the Word. We have good news for you: God gave us his Word to help make our lives fuller - not harder! He gives meaning to our lives, purpose to everything we do, and energy to thrive. He gives rest and reinvigoration, satisfaction, joy, and enjoyment. He wants tour relationship to feed us, not drain us."
From the nice reference list at the back of the Bible, I can easily find one of the 24 spiritual practices / disciplines to help in areas that I'm struggling in or have a question about. Each Discipline is covered in four ways: Everyday Matters, Everyday Profiles, Everyday Q & A's, and Everyday Reflections. Contributors range from Christian music artists, authors, professors, pastors and life coaches. In addition, each topic has an option for more scriptures to explore!
My favorite topics are:
Simplicity (Proverbs 15:16, 2 Kings 4:1-7)
Silence (Proverbs 10:19-21)
Sabbath & Rest (Jeramiah 17:19-26)
Hospitality (2 Kings 4:8-37)
Every book in this Bible begins with an introduction which includes: background information, synopsis, time period and outline of events.
Options on using this in a small group study are included plus an explaination what the New Living Translation is and its' primary purpose.
Eventhough I'm still a New King James fan at heart, I've enjoyed reading the devotional topics from Everday Matters Bible for Women!
