The Remarkable Ronald Reagan: Cowboy & Commander in Chief Book Review & Giveaway!

Sitting down with my four children aged 3-14,  I began reading aloud:

"The American dream is not that every man must be level with every other man.  The American dream is that every man must be free to become whatever God intends he should become."

"We must reject the idea that every time a law's broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker.  It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions."

"Governments' first duty is to protect the people, not run their lives."

"Wow Mom!  Who said all of that?  I wish HE was president!" said my 12 year old.

"Well kids, those words were spoken by former President Ronald Reagan.", I replied.

"WOW!" remarked my 14, 12 and 9 year olds.

The Remarkable Ronald Reagan takes your young reader through our 40th President's youth, career, and family life right up to the White House years.  Author Susan Allen has done a fabulous job of capturing Reagan's character:  steadfast, charismatic and perserverant.  And also showing that he was a President after the Founding Father's hearts.

The Remarkable Ronald Reagan - review and GIVEAWAY! http://www.upatdawnreadytowork.com/2013/06/the-remarkable-ronald-reagan-cowboy.html

Though this book is written for 3-4th graders, it is interesting and well received by ALL ages.  Also included is a timeline of "Highlights from a Life Well-Lived", personal letters and more quotes!

Though he wasn't a perfect man, nor his presidency flawless, Ronald Reagan really understood the foundation on which this country was birthed and gave himself to uphold that conviction.  It comes through loud and clear in this biographical gem!

As one who lived through the Reagan years,   I still get goose bumps when I hear , "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall."

  1. He was the best president this country had in my life time. Wish more men running for president remembered what the founding fathers envisioned for this great nation.

  8. While I certainly did not appreciate him while he was President (dumb teenager then), I have come to see that Ronald Reagan truly was one of the very best presidents this land has ever had. We need more men like him in political office these days. After he became president was when I learned about Jelly Belly candies...

  13. Ronald Reagan is the first president that I remember. I remember sitting in my living room (as a kid) and listening to him say, "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down that wall". While I didn't fully understand what was going on I remember being impressed by that speech. As I have grown and learned more about our world and history I am very grateful he was our president and wish we could find another like him. Thanks for the chance to win!

  18. My boys (8&10) are HUGE history buffs with a special love of all things presidential. Last summer my husband visited the Reagan Library and told the boys all about it. This book looks like it would be a great follow up to the information they got then, and also a great addition to their history book collection.
